Vaccination Link to Autism

Their was a study that came out saying that their was a link between vaccinations and autism not too long ago. Shortly there after, medical doctors and even Bill Gates who is pushing and funding the polio vaccination around the world, is now saying that the report that came out was a fraudulent report. They refuse to investigate this claim because they know their is a connection, In the early 90's and even before than, many of the diseases and disorders were rarely heard of and back in those days vaccinations were not given as they are now. All of a sudden they increase the number of vaccinations given and gave them to younger children and now we have a considerable increase in these conditions. I think they know exactly what the effects of vaccinations are but will never admit it because of ll the parents that will want to sue the health care industry. It would also cause people to lose faith in these vaccinations which would mean less money in everyone's pocket. Could you imagine??
I hope a study comes out that will prove the connection and families will be compensated or given free services to help the children affected by this.

Potty training Autism

My daughter Amani is 4 yrs old now and a twin as some may know already, and I have been having some trouble with potty training her. The problem is really teaching her how to poop in the toilet. It has been very frustrating for me especially that she'll be starting kindergarten this September. She is able to pee in the potty but refuses to poop in it. I am looking for an explanation and solution. If anyone has any suggestions please post them in comments. If any one is having the same problem with their child please send a shout out in comments and let me know if their is something that you are currently trying with your child. This is a desperate cry for help!!

MRI test for Autism

It was reported  that a MRI could detect Autism in individuals much earlier. MRI technology will be used to calculate differences in brain circuit arrangement. This is also good for understanding Autism in general. The test is not ready to be available to the public at this time but will be soon. They have been using people already diagnosed with severe Autism and  have been 94 % correct in diagnosing them with the MRI. More could be read about this study at http://starglobaltribune.com/2010/autism-diagnosis-latest-research-discovers-new-test-with-high-accuracy-3438. This is progress.

PDD and Proper Diagnosis

PPD is the term for Pervasive Development Disorders. A child with this diagnosis means that your child falls under the umbrella of Autism. This is a vaige diagnosis as it could fall under so many things. When my daughter was diagnosed with PDD, they told me that she had mild Autism meaning she was doing some things according to their age appropriate stage of development. This left me a bit confused because in my opinion as a mother, if she was able to do some things than she would be able to eventually be "cured" and off the spectrum. They quickly corrected me by saying that she could never be "cured' of Autism but could be taught to function independently. This saddened me but it did not stop me from believing that it is possible. A great article to read on the subject could be found at http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_whatis_PDD.

Detecting Autism

Does Your Baby Have Autism?: Detecting the Earliest Signs of AutismMy earlier post was about signs of autism and I forgot to mention a really good website for detecting signs of autism from infancy to toddler. I gave a general idea of what to look for. This site goes into more detail.http://www.autismspectrumdisorderfoundation.org/detectingautism.html

Signs of Autism

As a mother with a child diagnosed with Autism I know how concerning this diagnosis is. Since my daughter Amani was an infant I noticed that she was lagging behind developmentally, but I thought nothing of it since she and her sister were born premature. I thought, ahh this is something that happens to all preterm twins, they'll catch up. Time went by and now family memebers were noticing the delay but when they would bring it to my husband and I attention, we would become defensive and say "she's alright shes just behind". People stated to ask me if Amani had a hearing problem because she would not respond to her name being called. This is when I started to get concerned. My sister in law referred me to an Early Intervention agency and I called immediately. Soon I had both my girls evaluated. This was the beginning of our journey.

By the time I had them evaluated they were already two years old. If I would have accepted my fears from the beginning I could have had them receiving services much earlier. If you suspect that your child has autism or a leaning disability, get them evaluated as soon as posssible.
Some signs to watch for are , not responding to there name or sound, staring off or daydreaming excessively, infrequent eye contact, not attempting to speak or form words. These are some signs that I myself noticed in my child. If you see some of these signs setup an appointment with your child's pediatrician and voice your concerns. The earlier the better.

Welcome readers!!

This is my first post for this blog and I am excited to get started. I started this blog to inform and to be informed about Autism. As a mother of three with my youngest two being twin girls =) with speech delay and the other with Autism. So you already know I am very concerned for their future and want to "fix them" so to speak or at least make them functional later on in life. They both show so much potential and I want to make sure I do everything on my part to assist them in accomplishing that goal. I am sure that parents in the same situation want the same for their child. So help me and I'll try to help you by providing useful information to you all and we all in turn will be more informed parents.
